Mid-Atlantic Welcomes Bio West Virginia and Women in Bio as New 2010 Partners

For the first time, the Bioscience Association of West Virginia (BioWV) and Women In Bio (WIB) will partner with Mid-Atlantic Bio for the 2010 Mid-Atlantic Bio Conference taking place October 27-29 at the North Bethesda Marriott Convention Center in Bethesda, Md.
As 2010 strategic partners, BioWV and WIB will join event hosts the Tech Council of Maryland/MdBio (TCM/MdBio), the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association (MAVA), and the Virginia Biotechnology Association (VaBIO) to create an even stronger platform for the combined communities of their industry constituents to come together at this year’s conference. Both BioWVA and WIB serve different segments of the expanding biotechnology industry, each important in the industry ecosystem. It is anticipated that both organizations will have strong representation from their respective membership groups at this year’s conference.
BIO2011 Presence Results in Thai Company Opening Plant in W.Va.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin announced today that Precision Converting Solutions (PCS) LLC will open a specialty converting factory in the Charleston area. The new company is a subsidiary of Siam Precision Components, a Thailand-based manufacturer of precision laminated components.
When fully operational in two years, the project is expected to create 25 high-technology jobs and represent an investment of approximately $6 million.
Growth of Bioscience Industry Focus on Benedum Grant Award

Charleston, WV – TechConnect West Virginia and the Bioscience Association of West Virginia have received grant funding from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation to assist the organizations in their missions to grow the bioscience sector in West Virginia, organization representatives announced today.
The grant will be used to implement key goals and action items outlined in TechConnect West Virginia’s Blueprint for Technology-Based Economic Development Biotechnology Report. TechConnectWV commissioned the study, which was conducted by the Battelle Technology Partnership Practice and issued in January 2011.
Second Annual Biosciences Summit to be Held Wednesday, January 25th in Charleston

Charleston, W.Va. (October 18, 2011) – The Bioscience Association of West Virginia will hold the Second Annual West Virginia Bioscience Summit on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at the Charleston Town Center Marriott Hotel in Charleston, West Virginia, organization representatives announced today.
Derek Gregg, chairman of the of the Bioscience Association of West Virginia, said, “The purpose of the event is to highlight the role and impact of the bioscience industry in West Virginia, showcase research and commercialization efforts taking place at state universities and private companies, and to discuss policies and programs to help nurture the industry. This is an important industry for our state and it will become an economic cornerstone in the years to come.”
